My father, John Leslie Holt, more simply known as Les Holt,
was born in Rammy in February 1938. That means his 70th birthday is nearly
upon us. I was thinking of what to do for his birthday and thought about
maybe trying to find some old photos or just stories from his younger
days. He was a keen sportsman, and played both cricket and football. Does
anybody remember him, and could anybody help with pictures. Its a long
shot I know, but anything would be good.

I am
looking for information on a Mr. Fred Gathergood, who served in
Germany during WWII. His address in the UK at that time was 24 Major
Street, Ramsbottom, Manchester, England. I have a photograph of him taken
by a young German woman at the time. On the back she wrote 'This is my
friend Fred'. The photo is of a uniformed solider holding a pipe. From
what I can find, I believe Mr.Gathergood is no longer living. We are
trying to find information on other people who served with him during the
war that are still alive who might have some information on the young woman.
If you can direct me to family or friends or have any other
information about Mr. Gathergood, please contact me. We would also
be interested in an obituary if available. |

In Ramsbottom in 1901.
I

Does anybody know of Alice and Billy (I think they were
Durrants, but maybe were offsprings of a Durrant marriage with
a different surname). They would be around 85/90years old by now. My
relations were from Ramsbottom - Sam, Mary, Jack,
Elizabeth Ann, Billy, - some lived at 1. Beech Street,
Summerseat.

Hello: We are coming to England and Wales to
visit and would like to find out any information
about our mother, Marion Bennett, who was
born in Ramsbottom on December 7,
1920 and who lived there with her father John
Bennett and mother (I think Emily Bennett) until she was
in her 20’s. She became a teacher and married
a Welsh headmaster called Thomas Isfryn Davies
around 1946
and they taught at a boarding school
in Shrewsbury. They then immigrated to Canada
in 1956 with their five children. Marion returned when her mother died (in
the early 1960’s) and brought her father, John Bennett back to
Canada. Any information on the address where they lived or gravesites etc.
would be greatly appreciated as we are
traveling to Ramsbottom in August 2007.
